Irish Hackerspaces Week

Over the last year there has been an explosion of interest in the hackerspace movement. Hackerspaces are shared physical spaces where creatives from the Arts, Sciences and Technology communities come together to work on personal projects. Since 2009 hackerspaces have grown from 96 to 450 worldwide. Ireland has been part of that growth with hackerspaces growing from one to five since the beginning of 2010. To celebrate this fact backspaces from the four corners of the island are delighted to announce the first annual Irish Hackerspace Week which runs from the 14th of August until Sunday 22nd of August.
Irish Hackerspace Week will highlight the talents, creativities, and opportunities of modern hacker culture within Ireland. A diverse range of fun and informative events are planned including presentations, demonstrations, workshops, meet-ups and social events to name but a few. Events are being hosted and organised locally by each hackerspace highlighting their facilities and areas of interests. Streamed collaborative events are also planned to showcase the shared identities between hackerspaces groups.
Participating hackerspace groups include 091 Labs in Galway, Hackerspace Cork, HackNI in Belfast, Limerick Hackerspace, and TOG in Dublin. The majority of events are free and open to the public, though preregistration may be required due to limits on physical space. Specific event information can be found on http://hackerspaces.org/wiki/Irish_Hackerspaces_Week
