According to Eamonn Ryan speaking in the Dail on 2nd March he wants the PSB Mux up and running to 90% of the population by 31st October 2010. Is this finally the 'official' launch of DTT in Ireland? Do people think it will happen? What extra relays I wonder will have to be up and and running to supply 90% coverage. Plus he wants a 'national' service by 31st December 2011. What % coverage qualifies as national. Same as current analogue reception?

Quote:
Deputy Eamon Ryan: As I stated recently in response to a previous question on the issue, I am not prepared to speculate on the outcome of the commercial DTT process, which is a matter for the BAI. Nor am I prepared to surmise on the ongoing negotiations between the BAI, RTE and the OneVision consortium. I have, however, made clear my opinion that I would like to see this process concluded as soon as possible. The conclusion of the process is essential to provide certainty for broadcasters, suppliers and the general public with regard to the development of commercial DTT services.

Under section 129 of the Broadcasting Act 2009, RTE is required to ensure that free-to-air DTT is available to approximately 90% of the population on such date as may be specified by the Minister. I signed an order last week specifying this date as being 31 October 2010. The Act also requires RTE to provide a national free-to-air digital service with capacity to carry RTE 1, RTE 2, TG4 and TV3 by the end of 2011 or such later date as I may specify. I have written to RTE informing it that the date for provision of a national service is 31 December 2011.

There's very little to stop "Saorview" launching right now. Most main Tx's are already live and there's a finite amount of testing that can go on!

As for national coverage, I'd doubt it can ever achieve 100% coverage. Unless RTÉ use satellite services for those outside Tx catchment areas.

Yes, it's been tested to death at this stage. Launch it now please! I've been waging a one man PR campaign on behalf of DTT to friends. They are skeptical until I show how them easy it is to get, plus how good the picture is for so little effort.

Of course it helps when you are only roughly 4 or 5 miles from Clermont Carn! It should be even easier from early 2013, when following UK ASO, CC is planned to go from 50 KW to 160 KW ERP. Other masts too are meant to increase their output power. Is this correct?

One friend has Sky and they quickly realised its very handy for a second TV. A rabbits ears near the sitting room window is getting it for them.

Yeah, my analogue signal from Truskmore is pretty dire, but works wonderfully on DTT.

Truskmore should get better when they populate the new higher mast. I think they intend doing that during this summer.

How long though before the transposer stations get DTT rolled out? We use Moville in Donegal and therefore no TV3 at present.

Not sure about Moville.

The only document I have, is back a few years now, not sure if schedule is still being adhered to, if at all.

Can't attach it - exceeds allowed filesize...

RTE talks collapse

Quote:

EIRCOM's pitch to be at the forefront of the next generation of
paid-for television is hanging by a thread after the telco's One Vision
consortium apparently reached the end of the line in its crucial
negotiations with RTE's networks division.

The consortium has
spent almost a year locked in negotiations with RTE in a bid to secure a
transmission contract for the commercial aspect of a new television
platform known as DTT

We have been expecting this since may 2009

Finally "definite"

Saorview will use Nordig specification. You need an HD setbox or TV with MPEG4 and MHEG5

31st October is only a soft Launch, "real" Launch Mid 2011 to late 2011 (After Saorsat?)
