This means we can only say that Card Sharing (even on your own LAN in your own house) can't be discussed in terms that would help someone do it as it's illegal in Ireland as are any methods of extending or obtaining PayTv without the correct payment to the correct supplier.
Foreign pay TV.
Currently "third party" import legitimate pay TV viewing cards are legal for private individuals. They might not be legal for Pubs, Clubs and other Public places where a Performance Licence is usually needed too.
Discussions on pay TV other than Sky & UPC, mostly for Football:Foreign Satellite on Boards.ie Technically Sky is a Foreign TV platform. Also UPC, while Foreign owned, is an Irish subsidiary, but most of the actual pay TV content is either from UK or Sky PayTV platform. The only significant Irish pay TV channel is TV3e with less than 1% market share.
Differences between Sky and UPC
| Sky | UPC | |
|---|---|---|
| Delivery | Dish reception | Cabled areas only |
| Set-box | subsidised install | remains UPC property |
| Content | Best channels Free, even after cancelling. | Subscription only: No free channels |
| Multiroom | Needs Phone line verification | Cheaper and no phone line needed |
